Trend of the Week: Plaid

HAPPY FALL Y'ALL!!!

So if you haven't been keeping up with my insta-shananigans, then you probably don't know about my DIE-SUMMER/LONG-LIVE-FALL obsession. Pumpkins, bright orange, cinnamon on every thing, BOOTS (!)...lets just say it's a magical time of year for me. Ironically, I broke/sprained (not sure yet) my toe when I tackled Pascale's new puppy (more on that soon), so sandals it is!

Fall's trend lineup is out of control though. There are so many wild prints, unique color combos and, most importantly, LAYERING that is making me lose it over here. One of my fall fav's would have to be the lovely plaid print, (probably because of all the back-to-back Sons of Anarchy seasons I've been watching...Jax Teller really knows how to werk some plaid and leather). As you can see in the collage above, you can do plaid with any garment, even overalls. And colorways are not limited, so go for whatever tone you like. Let this be your main print in your outfit and balance it out with different solids like denim or leather, and accessorize with outerwear pieces, scarves, and fun jewelry. Whether it be 90's grunge, lumber-chic, or biker babe...you really can't go wrong with this look.

RAAD Trend: Camisoles

Cami Comeback
TIBI color block shirt / TIBI tank, $300 / TIBI silk racerback tank / Topshop cropped camisole / Goldie chiffon camisole, $58 / Zara camisole shirt / River Island camisole tank top, $23 / River Island orange camisole, $15

RAADTrend: Camisoles
What it is: Cut cloth in its most simplest form, with itty bitty straps and a geometric body.
Why it's RAAD: It may be simple in the way it is cut, but it's how the top lays on you that makes an uber sexy statement. It totally embodies the "oh, I just threw this on" look that we all love.

RAAD TREND: Fifty Shades of Gladiator

RAAD Trend: Gladiator Sandals
What it is: Caging your legs with lateral, leather strips from the tips of your toes to the bottom of your knees.
Why it's RAAD: Never mind the fact that you'd be living out one of Christian Grey's fashion fantasies, this bondage-meets-bohemian trend looks super fierce with any leg-baring outfit. Yes, gladiators have made a comeback, but this year they're paired with longer hemlines (as seen above) to make an even stronger statement.

RAAD Trend: Grid Lock

RAAD Trend: Grid Lock
What it is: A geometric pattern consisting of perpendicular lines, resembling the likes of the board game classics. (Think checkers, tic-tac-toe, bingo, etc.)
Why it's RAAD: You've officially been given the green light to really amp up your linear love affair. Layer those lines on like the walking optical illusion you are!
How to wear it: This is your opportunity to mix perpendicular and parallel lines in one look. You can take your Breton striped tee and tuck it into a grid-like pencil skirt. Or layer a striped blazer on top of a checkered blouse with some ankle skinnies. Make sure to have a solid neutral color in the mix. We don't need people falling over in a trance.

RAAD TREND: SNEAKER CHIC

RAAD Trend: Sneaker Chic
What it is: Straight up running shoes paired with girly silhouettes
Why it's RAAD: This trend is a godsend for our poor stiletto-wearing feet. These comfort shoes are your skirt's new bff, and they come in all colors and styles. It's such a good contrast between feminine and downtown-cool, not to mention how chic you'll look running errands throughout the day!
How to wear it: Pencil, A-line, pleated, mini...any feminine skirt or dress that you have can be paired with these kicks. I would keep a balance of bright and neutral colors, whether you keep your shoes black and white with a hot pink dress, or vice versa.

Here's some of my favorite picks:

RAAD Trend: The Gentlewoman

RAAD Trend: The Gentlewoman
What it is: This androgynous look takes power-suiting to a whole other level. Bright/printed/monochromatic suits, chest-baring blouses, collars and bow ties, and a little bit of leather. There's nothing butch about this.
Why it's RAAD: Never mind the fact that it's feminine, edgy and seductive without having to wear a mini. But the RAADest thing of all is that it's completely effortless and unexpected. If you want to make a statement without trying too hard, this is how you do it.
When to wear it: The obvious answer: for work. Interviews, meetings, presentations...anything that requires a more sophisticated dress code. But you gotta take this look outside of the office if you really want to look RAAD. Pair your suit with a crop-top for cocktail hour. Or wear leather flats with a skinnier leg to lunch downtown.
